The Painted Hills: The Circut Rider Series

Written By: Dennis Ellingson

Published By: Eloquent Books

J.L. Matthews is a rough, drinking cowboy with a past and very little hope for a future. His bouts with alcohol lead him into trouble continuously. Not only has his drinking separated him from his wife and son, but it has been the cause of many a fight. Unfortunately, his most recent fight not only leads to his dismissal as a farm hand, but it also sets him up as a target. Someone wants J.L. Matthews dead.

A couple of strangers assist J.L. when he is left for dead and he is nursed back to health. As he is recovering, the love that he is shown causes him to think about his wayward life. He desires to make changes so that he can be reunited with his wife, Maddie and his son, Jacob. Another aspect of love begins to penetrate his heart; it is forgiveness. In time, J.L. asks Jesus into his heart.

As a changed man he can be both the husband and father that he longed to be as well as becoming a responsible worker. Unfortunately, he is still a hunted man. There is more to this story which the reader will not discover until the author writes the next book in the series.

Ellingson, who has lived in Oregon for most of his life, has placed the setting of this series within this familiar territory. The descriptions of the area and the accompanying black and white photographs captivate the reader and pull the reader directly into the story.

This reader is looking forward to learning what happens in the next book.
